Back in March 2023, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced the implementation of the new Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing . For those unaware, it's to set lower prices for broadband services but nothing has happened until now.

That said, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission just released a statement regarding when the implementation would take effect. According to the post on Facebook, the retail fixed broadband price reduction can happen after the access agreements are done and understood between service providers.

At the moment, most access providers have or are in the process of publishing reference access offer . MCMC is expecting the agreements to be concluded by the end of September 2023. After the due date, consumers can also expect a price reduction for broadband services. In early February 2023, the Malaysian government launched the Pakej Perpaduan Fixed Internet Broadband scheme to help the B40 group, veterans, special needs people and the elderly to lessen their financial burden. The package comes with a 24-month subscription contract or RM69 per month, alongside up to 30Mbps with unlimited data. 6066 users have already signed up for the Fixed Broadband package.
