With its rookie in place through 2026, it's a good time to convince Norris that he can win the championship he wants with McLaren.
on Wednesday, the rookie could not resist a cheeky message on Twitter.
“It became clear and apparent to us very soon,” Andrea Stella, McLaren’s team principal, said Thursday at Suzuka ahead of the. “I’m happy to say that the same was on Oscar’s side. It was recognized by both parties that this is the collaboration that should lead both parties, from a team point of view and a driver point of view, into the future.”
Now, as it looks to the long-term and bids to continue its revival, McLaren must set to work on locking Norris in for the long term.It may seem strange to think, given Norris still has two-and-a-half years to run on his existing F1 contract. But the driver market is expected to be especially volatile heading into 2025 and beyond.
It means McLaren would be wise to try to lock Norris down. Led by Zak Brown, who was involved in Norris’s management prior to either of them joining McLaren, the team previously agreed to two contract renewals with Norris in the space of nine months — a sign of its belief in his importance to its future. His performances this year, scoring three second-place finishes, have only increased his stock.
