McLaren, which reportedly tried to sign Palou while he was under contract with Ganassi last season, is now reportedly claiming the IndyCar title favorite violated an agreement for 2024.

Arrow McLaren announced that it had signed Palou for the 2023 season, but Chip Ganassi Racing fired back saying the Spanish driver was still under contract through 2023

. Palou ended up staying with Ganassi for 2023 while also becoming McLaren's F1 reserve driver. There was an expectation that Palou would move to Arrow McLaren next year, but that was before he apparently had a change of heart. Neither McLaren nor Chip Ganassi Racing have made any sort of public declaration over Palou's services for 2024. But it seems McLaren thinks it has a contractual right to Palou, and with the driver now trying to stay with Ganassi, it's not going to let him go easily.

During the 2022 season, Palou going to the ambitious Arrow McLaren IndyCar program was seen as a lateral move. He finished fifth in the standings. But now, Palou and Ganassi are operating on a new level, winning four races in a five-race stretch earlier this summer to highlight an incredible season with no single finish worse than eighth. This Sunday, he has a legitimate chance of crowning himself as a two-time IndyCar champion two races before the season ends.

Now, that relationship with Ganassi seems likely to continue and a championship is very likely. Palou only has to figure out the matter of the eight-figure lawsuits filed on another continent.
