The city expects to break ground on the project next year.
The concept is still being finalized. In early 2025, the city will consider the site plan and the formal incentive agreements related to infrastructure assistance, tax rebates and land acquisition.“This project is truly transformative, answering our community’s call for more family-focused activities while positioning McKinney as a premier destination for one-of-a-kind recreational experiences,” Mayor George Fuller said in a statement.
At the heart of the development, Cannon Beach plans to have a resort-style hotel with a rooftop pool, a sand beach and space for events and weddings, the release states. The hotel has plans for lounge areas, cabanas with food service and water attractions like cliff diving and a stationary surf wave.
The development’s “vision” will have entertainment features like a skateboard park, movie theater, bowling alley, health club, indoor recreation facilities and more, the release states. It’s not just a tourism project. The development, which will include 100,000 square feet of office space, is slated to host a range of businesses, from global corporations to startups, Fuller said in a statement.
The Cannon Development Group opened its first 40-acre, surf-focused development in Mesa, Arizona, earlier in December, according to the release. The Arizona location, which the company describes on its website as a “lifestyle destination,” includes a surf park, hotel, office buildings, dining, retail, a gym and co-working space.
