Bruce McGowan felt privileged to hold his wife Belinda as she died, and now wants all palliative care patients to have the option to be close to loved ones at the end of their life.

"When our children are born, we're close to them and we spend a lot of time imprinting on them," he said.Cuddle beds aren't a new invention, but Mr McGowan said he had been working with suppliers to make modifications specifically suited to rural hospitals.The health service in Barcaldine, more than 1,000 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, was the first central west hospital to receive a bed from the McGowan Foundation.
