McDonald's Japan has announced a summer campaign in collaboration with Pokémon, dubbed Pokémon Summer Mac, to celebrate the fast food chain's 55-year anniversary in Japan and Pokémon's 30-year anniversary in 2026.
The campaign began on July 10 and will run until August 31, featuring multiple collaborative campaigns. A discounted 16-piece McNugget box with Pokémon-themed artwork has been confirmed, featuring Pikachu, Squirtle, and Charmander. A Summer Chance Bag will also be available through a lottery system, including a Pikachu fries timer, a Pokémon plastic cup, and a pouch with food vouchers.
Applications for the Summer Chance Bag will run until July 20, 2026, with winners being able to purchase the unique Pokémon-inspired bag. Additionally, all McDonald's locations in Japan will become Poké Stops from July 20 to September 1, 2026, as part of a collaboration with Pokémon GO, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. This marks the first time in six years that McDonald's has partnered with Pokémon GO.
The Pokémon Summer Mac campaign is expected to be a major event for Pokémon fans, with two more campaigns still to be revealed. For those living outside of Japan, the campaign may be accessible through leaks of other Pokémon games, such as Pokémon Winds and Waves. The 30-year anniversary of Pokémon is being celebrated with a series of events and promotions, and it seems to be going from strength to strength.
The campaign is a testament to the enduring popularity of the Pokémon franchise and its ability to bring people together through gaming and entertainment
