The McDonald Fire southeast of Fairbanks has grown to 30,000 acres as crews work to contain the blaze in high temps.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Smoke could be seen on the horizon southeast of Fairbanks Monday as the McDonald Fire continues to burn through vegetation, now reaching more than 30,000 acres.
Two teams from the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection are patrolling the fire region along the Richardson Highway across the Tanana River, and crews including the Midnight Suns, Gannett Glacier and Pioneer Peak Hotshot crews have been dispatched to control the blaze. In addition, 5 smokejumpers have been made available and an additional 10 are due to arrive from the Lower 48.
