.LeaderMcConnell to host POTUS Biden in Kentucky for event celebrating president's 'economic plan'
The visit from the president comes after McConnell joined Democrats in voting for legislation that has drawn a rebuke from former President Donald Trump and certain conservative Republicans. Joining the president and the Kentucky senator will be Sen. Sherrod Brown , Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear , and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine , according to a White House official.
"The President will deliver remarks on how his economic plan is rebuilding our infrastructure, creating good-paying jobs that don’t require a four-year degree, and revitalizing communities left behind," the brief advisory from the White House read.McConnell is one of several Republicans who are in hot water for helping Democrats in passing legislation, including the infrastructure bill in 2021 and the omnibus spending bill in 2022, the latter of which was signed into law on Thursday.
Other Republicans who joined Democrats in voting yes to the omnibus bill, which totals $1.7 trillion in government funding and discretionary spending for fiscal 2023, include Sens. Mitt Romney , Lindsey Graham , Rob Portman , and Tom Cotton .The visit will come only a day after Republicans take control of the House of Representatives on Tuesday. The Democratic Party will remain in control of the Senate.
