Mayor Sara assures LGBTQ+ motorcycle back-riding couples allowed in Davao City
– Couples, who are members of the lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, and queer community, are assured that they will be allowed to go on motorcycle back-riding in the city. This was disclosed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Friday, who cited a memorandum from the Philippine National Police dated July 9 that allows couples, and boyfriends and girlfriends to back-ride in motorcycles.
“Ang LGBT wala man silay marriage, so dili sila matawag na husband and wife. But ang nakabutang diri boyfriend and girlfriend, so it also includes the LGBT gender ,” she said in a radio interview. Duterte said Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduard Ano, himself, gave the description of a couple “as those living in the same household whether they are married or they are common-law husband and wife or boyfriend and girlfriend.”
“Ang pwede lang sa pagkakaroon are those living within the same household, bf-gf, live-in, or married ,” she said. Duterte said to show proof that the riders are a couple, they should present identification cards with the same surnames. The city government issued Memorandum Order No. 017-2020 dated July 10 addressed to Davao City Police Office, Task Force Davao, City Transport and Traffic Management Office, and Public Safety and Security Command Center on the requirements for motorcycle pillion-riding, back-ride, or “angkas”.
