Mayor Cherelle Parker announced Thursday that 25 Philadelphia schools will pilot 12 months of learning, and other opportunities outside of normal school hours, this upcoming year.
It's also a voluntary program for families.
Schools were selected based on their conditions, such as whether the schools had air conditioning and if children are more at-risk in their neighborhoods. "We have a number of universities. We'll be tapping on that expertise," said Superintendent Tony Watlington.
