the push by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to get homeless people off the streets, is expanding as workers reach out to unhoused individuals at two more encampments, one in South L.A. and one in Del Rey on the Westside, the mayor announced Wednesday, Feb. 1.
The latest efforts are underway near West 87th Street and Western Avenue in a South L.A. area represented b by Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, and near Culver Boulevard and South Slauson Avenue in Del Rey represented by Councilmember Traci Park. Unhoused individuals at both locations have accepted temporary housing in motel rooms, where they should receive services and case management support to help them transition to permanent supportive housing, the mayor’s office said in a news release.
“Inside Safe is our strategy to bring unhoused Angelenos inside in a sustainable way,” Bass said. “Yesterday, I visited the site in South Los Angeles and spoke with Angelenos who were living in tents and were happy to move into temporary housing. As we scale up our operation, we are going to be able to house more and more Angelenos, and I look forward to continuing that work.”on homelessness, launched her Inside Safe initiative in December shortly after taking office.
