Mayor Eric Adams is taking to the streets to demand — yet again — the Biden Administration fast-track work permits for thousands of migrants who have flooded into the Big Apple since last year.
Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday called on the White House to fast-track federal approval for the thousands of migrants who have flooded into the Big Apple to obtain work visas so that they can work on the books and become self-sufficient.As of Sunday, New York City officials said more than 107,000 migrants seeking asylum have been processed in the Big Apple since the spring of last year, and nearly 60,000 are currently being housed and provided services by the city.
On Thursday, a group of City Council leaders joined the call for federal work permits for the migrants. Hundreds of New York City residents have protested Mayor Eric Adams’ handling of the migrant crisis, with the backlash against turning a former Staten Island Catholic school into a shelter sparking new talk of a breakaway from the city.Adams said “New York City deserves better.”“People seeking asylum can contribute immensely to our economy and it is imperative that we facilitate this outcome,” they said.
