THE ongoing eruption of Mayon volcano may last for three months, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Wednesday. READ HERE:

Phivolcs Director Teresito 'Toto' Bacolcol told The Manila Times in an exclusive interview that based on Mayon's previous eruptions, the current one is similar to the 2014 effusive eruption which started on Aug. 15 and ended on Nov. 1, 2014. This will last for about three months.'Mayon has been continuously erupting since June 8 when its alert status was raised to Level 3.

Since the volcano would continue emitting sulfur dioxide gas and spewing lava and debris in a 'gentle and quiet' manner over the next three months, chances are that an explosive eruption may no longer take place, said Bacolcol.'We just hope that we can avoid a violent eruption after that three-month period of effusive eruption,' he added.
