A Mayfield Heights police blotter summarizes several incidents that occurred between December 10th and 15th, including a shoplifting incident, a traffic stop involving unlicensed driving and fraudulent license plates, a report of a sleeping person in a running car, a resident inquiring about a suspicious email, and a vandalism incident.

Heinen’s loss prevention discovered a theft Dec. 10 in which a man failed to pay for $200 worth of crab legs, steaks, and other items on a previous date. While officers were investigating the identity of the suspect, the man called the store claiming that he accidentally failed to pay for the groceries. The Mayfield Heights man, 69, returned to the business and made payment. It was not clear if he was being honest or knew that he was being investigated for the theft.

He was issued a trespass warning.Upon a traffic stop Dec. 12 for a red-light violation, officers found that the driver had no license and was using license plates belonging to the previous owner of the recently purchased vehicle. The driver was cited, and the vehicle was left in the Chipotle parking lot to be picked up by a licensed driver. At 10:15 a.m. Dec. 14, a caller said there had been an unoccupied but running vehicle parked near the side of the Yours Truly building for about three hours. Officers checked and found someone sleeping in the passenger’s seat. He checked OK and said that he was waiting for his girlfriend to finish work at Jersey Mike’s.A resident, 68, came to the station Dec. 14 to ask about a suspicious email she received.A resident said Dec. 15 that the previous night someone knocked over a Christmas tree display on her front porch. The suspect came from an SUV that sopped in front of her home and was said to be occupied by several people. The resident did not report the incident when it happened because it was late, and she was tired. She just wanted police to be aware of what happened
