The Guardians may have to wait until the end of May to find out if Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports, will honor its TV contract with the team or return their TV rights.

DSG, according to the Sports Business Journal, has told the Reds that it will not make its rights fee payment on time. It currently has a 15-day grace period to make the payment. If it doesn’t, DSG could return the TV rights to the Reds on May 6.

The Reds situation is not the same as the Guardians and the Twins because the Reds own part of Bally Sports Ohio. The arrangement has kept the Reds separate from the current bankruptcy proceedings. The Angels, Cardinals, Marlins, Padres and Royals are in a similar situation. DSG owns Bally Sports Great Lakes and Bally Sports North that broadcast Guardians and Twins games. That gives the bankruptcy court the right to decide who controls those rights.Ad not displaying properly? Become a Cleveland Baseball Insider by clicking
