More than 11 million payments of between £250 and £600 will be made from November.
Millions of people over State Pension age are due a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions this month letting them know exactly how much Winter Fuel Payment they can expect to receive over the next couple of months. The annual heating bill help is paid to most eligible people automatically over November and December.
The guidance states that if you live alone or no one you live with is eligible for the Winter Fuel PaymentSome 11.6million people over State Pension age received up to £600 in Winter Fuel Payments and cost of living support by December last year, but it’s important to be aware that the payment window does not close until the last week in January.
Am I eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment? To be eligible for this year's Winter Fuel Payment, you must have been born before September 25, 1957 and lived in the UK for at least one day during the week of September 18-24, 2023 - this is called the ‘qualifying week’. How to make a claim You can claim Winter Fuel Payment by post or over the phone. The deadline for you to make a claim for winter 2023 to 2024 is March 31, 2024 - full details about making a claim can be found on GOV.UK here.
