Max Scherzer, a former World Series champion pitcher, could be joining the Chicago Cubs to fill their final starting rotation spot.

The Chicago Cubs have their starting rotation mostly set with Shota Imanaga, Matthew Boyd, and Jameson Taillon. However, Taillon is currently the only right-handed pitcher projected to start. Justin Steele rounds out the projected rotation, making it three left-handed pitchers. While unusual, the Cubs have made it work. They could still benefit from another right-handed option, and two-time World Series Champion Max Scherzer could fill that role.

Scherzer, recently linked to the Braves, could sign with the Cubs. Despite health issues limiting him to just nine starts in 2024, Scherzer posted a 3.95 ERA and 40 strikeouts against 10 walks. While he may not be the dominant ace he once was for the Nationals, he remains effective. Scherzer is projected to sign a one-year, $15 million deal in free agency. His experience and knowledge of the game could not only help him succeed with the Cubs but also elevate the rest of the rotation through his work with various pitching coaches throughout his career
