Max Kellerman tore into Travis Kelce after he dropped a crucial fourth-quarter pass, leading to an interception and another Chiefs loss

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had a brutal moment during his team’s 20-10 loss to the Houston Texas on Sunday, December 7, dropping a pass on a crucial fourth-quarter drive, leading to an interception that essentially sealed the game.

Cameras showed him looking utterly despondent on the sideline as the Chiefs’ playoff hopes took another significant blow. Reporter and podcaster Max Kellerman rubbed salt in the wound on the Tuesday, December 9 episode of his “Game Over” podcast, dragging the future Hall of Famer for forgetting “how to catch.” 'When I see a guy like Kelce drop a pass like last night, for example, the one that hit him in both hands,' said Kellerman, 52. 'I understand the guy losing his reflexes, losing this, losing that, you don't forget how to catch. What I'm saying is it's odd to me, I understand when your reflexes go, when your legs go, but the guy who is short-handed in critical situations, you don't forget how to catch.'Sunday Night Football analyst Chris Collinsworth noticed Kelce’s deflated expression and offered a blunt assessment of the team’s performance. “The faces of champions are really struggling to comprehend what is happening to this football season,” Collinsworth, 66, said. “Their talent is there. Yes, they had a lot of injuries on this offensive line but by my estimation that’s not what happened tonight. It wasn’t a breakdown of the offensive line. It was a breakdown across the board of the people that have made this franchise great over the past decade.” The Chiefs are now 6-7 on the season, two games behind the Texans for the final wild card spot in the AFC. The day after the game, Kansas City’s odds of reaching the playoffs dropped even further, from 15 percent to 11 percent, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. That’s because the Los Angeles Chargers defeated Philadelphia Eagles during Monday Night Football, further solidifying their playoff standing. But even as Kansas City’s odds fade, the players aren’t giving up. With four games remaining, quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he knows Kelce will go all-out to right the ship. “I know one thing is he’ll give everything he has the rest of this season to try and give us a chance to make a playoff run,” he said after Sunday’s game. “We know the chances are getting lower and lower, but I know the guys on this team are going to give everything they have every opportunity they get.” And with Kelce’s future beyond this season still to be determined, Mahommes, 30, added that he is savoring these final few games. Kelce openly considered retirement after the 2024 season and will likely have to grapple with the same decision this year. “Every season that I’ve had with him these last few years, I try to cherish because you never know,” Mahomes said. “He got himself in great shape this year and he’s played great football, and he’ll have the option to do whatever he wants to do after this season.”
