Liverpool are reportedly targetring former Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig sporting director Max Eberel as Jorg Schmadtke's successor at Anfield
Liverpool are reportedly competing with Bayern Munich to appoint sporting director Max Eberl, who has made a name for himself in the Bundesliga.
It has been stated by Bild that Eberl has been ‘contacted’ by Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan but that the 50-year-old is also wanted by Bayern Munich. Eberl spent over 13 years as sporting director at Borussia Monchengladbach, overseeing a renaissance in the club’s fortunes, before leaving for RB Leipzig last year. Eberl has been without a job since September, with Leipzig citing a lack of commitment due to reported advances from Bayern.
Prior to becoming sporting director in 2008, Eberl was head of Gladbach’s academy and helped to develop a young Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who made his first team debut in 2011. The German has spent almost a decade as Barcelona’s number one.Perhaps not the most glamorous name that could appear on this list but, similar to his countryman Sommer, the centre-back has proven to be a club stalwart for Borussia Monchengladbach.
This was enough to convince Dortmund that they had made a mistake. Reus agreed to rejoin his old club in January 2012 and has never looked back, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most gifted midfielders.The former Arsenal man was spotted by Eberl as a teenage midfielder for Basel in 2010 and went on to captain Gladbach before leaving for in the region of £35m after six seasons.
