But Dallas still required eight unanswered points in the final 1:30 of regulation to force overtime against a team that had won just five times in its first 23 games. The game before that: The Mavericks lost to the Zion Williamson-less, Brandon Ingram-less Pelicans in New Orleans. Wood with 10 points in 10 fourth-quarter minutes and Hardaway’s 6-of-14 3-point clip in his first game with Pops in the crowd stood out, too.Nor could they agree with the foul line.
“We need to be better,” Hardaway said. “Everybody has to be better, and I mean, if we make more than half of that, we wouldn’t be in here, [feeling] down.”During his pregame press conference, Pistons coach Dwane Casey reminisced about the Mavericks’ 2011 championship run, for which he was an assistant on Rick Carlisle’s staff.
