The Dallas Mavericks and their superstar center, Anthony Davis, could be planning a trade sometime this season.

Things have oddly gotten from bad to worse for the Dallas Mavericks. Nine months after one of the most shocking trades in sports history — the blockbuster deal that sent Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers — the ripple effects of that move are finally starting to take shape.

On Tuesday, Dallas said enough is enough with the mastermind behind the trade, general manager Nico Harrison. The Mavericks parted ways with Harrison after their disastrous 3-9 start to the season. They can’t reverse the deal, but this marks the first step toward a new era centered around their No. 1 overall pick, Cooper Flagg. Still, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Mavericks continue exploring ways to recover from that franchise-altering trade. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Mavericks and their superstar center, Anthony Davis, may be working together to plan a trade sometime this season. Stein wrote on Wednesday that the Mavericks “will work with Davis’s camp over the next two-plus months as they decide whether to pursue an in-season trade.” More news: Warriors Expected to Consider Trade for $186 Million All-Star Center While that is the case, Davis and his camp have not shown any signs of wanting to leave Dallas. “There has been no suggestion in the immediate aftermath of Harrison’s ouster that would try to force his exit just because Harrison, who openly loved him and wanted to build around him, has abruptly been dismissed.” It is clear on the part of Dallas and their owner, Patrick Dumont, that they are doing all they can to backtrack on the most shocking trade in NBA history. Not only are they trying to do that, but they are also trying to build around Flagg, whom they consider to be the nucleus of their team moving forward. The Mavericks need to do all they can to make Flagg the team’s focus. With Davis, a proven veteran on the team, their timelines do not match. On top of that, Davis has not played a whole lot in his Mavericks tenure, last season and at the start of this season. The 32-year-old champion has played in only 14 of a possible 44 games in Dallas. On top of that, he missed his seventh consecutive game on Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns and could miss his eighth consecutive on Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers. In just five games this season, Davis has averaged 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. For all the latest NBA news and rumors, head over to Newsweek Sports.
