Thompson’s decision to leave the Warriors marks the end of a historic dynasty that led to four championships in an eight-year span. He and Stephen Curry, also known as the Splash Brothers for their otherworldly 3-point shooting, were largely considered. That pairing, along with Draymond Green, turned the Warriors into championship contenders for the better part of the last decade. Thompson had several scoring explosions to contribute to Golden State’s success, especially during the postseason.
Despite the bitter ending, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 77 games last season for the Warriors. He shot 38.7% from the 3-point line, which would rank third on the Mavericks this season behind Dante Exum and Kyrie Irving.Dallas has desperately needed a third scoring option to supplement superstars Luka Doncic and Irving. It appears that the Mavericks have found their guy in Thompson.
