The 93-year-old opened up about her late husband, Jim McConaughey, in a recent interview with Austin Lifestyle . Their unusual marital history spanned 39 years, including two divorces and three weddings. 'Not many people can say that,' Kay remarked.
She detailed three distinct wedding ceremonies: one in a Presbyterian church, another in a Catholic church, and a final one in a Methodist church. Before their first marriage, Jim had been hesitant about commitment. Kay explained that while they were close in college, he couldn't seem to make up his mind. To encourage a decision, she sent him an invitation to their wedding, stating that if he didn't show up, she would return to New York to model. Thankfully for Kay, Jim did appear at the altar, proving his love despite his initial doubts. Kay and Jim welcomed three children: Michael, Patrick, and Matthew, who later became a renowned actor in the 1990s. Interestingly, Matthew was an unexpected addition to their family. Kay recounted that when she brought Matthew into the world, Jim initially questioned his paternity. However, he eventually warmed up to his son and embraced fatherhood. Jim passed away in 1992. Years later, Kay found love again with businessman Clyde 'CJ' Carlig, whom she considered her soulmate. Their 17-year relationship ended with Carlig's death from leukemia in 2017. Despite their deep connection, they never officially married. Kay expressed contentment with having two men in her life whom she deeply loved. Matthew has previously discussed his parents' unconventional relationship, sharing that they jokingly acknowledged their on-again, off-again dynamic by saying they loved each other 'six days a week'.
