Texas native Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, hope to add to that growing stash with the creation of the Uvalde Relief Fund to aid in the city’s ongoing relief efforts.
Founded by Matthew and Camila, the just keep livin Foundation was established to “empower high school students by providing them with the tools to lead active lives and make healthy choices for a better future.” According to the site, all proceeds will go towards grief counseling, costs associated with burial services and any other immediate and long-term needs for Uvalde residents.
“The community will need ongoing grief counseling and support on the long road ahead of them,” the statement says. “Please join us to help the people of Uvalde, TX.” Following the shooting at Robb Elementary School, where 19 students and 2 educators were killed by a lone gunman on May 24, McConaughey returned to his hometown to pay tribute to the victims. He took to social media to express his concernsa about how guns in the state have impacted children.
“As Americans, Texans, mothers and fathers, it’s time we re-evaluate and renegotiate our wants from our needs,” McConaughey wrote. “We have to rearrange our values and find a common ground above this devastating American reality that has tragically become our children’s issue.”
