Matthew Boyd's return to the mound was an overwhelming success for the Guardians.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Matthew Boyd stood atop the mound at Progressive Field in the first inning Tuesday with the realization that it had been 414 days since his last big league start never far from the back of his mind. A veteran of 10 seasons, Boyd said he was cotton mouthed and nervous just like his major league debut nearly a decade earlier.

Boyd, who pitched against Cleveland for eight seasons as a member of the Tigers, also said the response from Guardians fans as he walked off the mound in the sixth was special.
