Singer-turned-illustrator-turned-comedian Matteo Lane is returning to Chicago for a sold-out show at the Chicago Theatre Sept. 29.

, sharing clips from his nightly stand-up gigs at New York City’s Comedy Cellar, as well as two comedy specials — 2022′s “The Advice Special” and this year’s “Hair Plugs and Heartache,” released in June.Upon returning to his hometown for a sold-out show at the Chicago Theatre — his first time headlining the storied hall — he knew he’d have to set aside at least 50 tickets for his big Italian and Mexican family.
“I did three cities and we sold over 8,000 tickets — that is wild, and the audiences couldn’t have been better,” he said. “The fact that so many gay men came out — we all have the same experiences, we share the same lives in a lot of ways, so there’s that familiarity even though I’m American. Being gay transcends that.”
“I loved it!” he continues. “It was a great way to get on stage and learn stage presence and be in nightclubs. People say open mics and comedy are such a nightmare, but after you perform for 20 drunk, gay men throwing peanuts at you because you’re not singing a Mariah Carey song, you’re not so afraid of an open mic.
