Knuckleballer allows 10 runs, tied for most by any pitcher ever at Petco Park
Padres starting pitcher Matt Waldron walks off the mound during Wednesday’s game against the Twins. His first full season as a starting pitcher in the major leagues, however, has hit a wall.
Of more concern for the Padres, with 34 games remaining, is the hole that has developed in their starting rotation in a spot that for a good portion of the season was so solid. This follows a stretch of 14 starts in which he had a 2.76 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, 13th best among qualifying major league starters in that span.
In addition to figuring out how to navigate starts at the highest level, Waldron is working through how to employ his unique primary offering, the knuckleball.
