CANTON, Ohio — Cincinnati Moeller quarterback Matt Ponatoski has been named the 38th winner of Ohio’s Mr. Football award. Following in the footsteps of Jordan Marshall , who won the award in 2023, Ponatoski is the first junior to win the award since Erick Howard in 2008. Moeller’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, Ponatoski has been a standout in the 2023 season, throwing for 4,075 yards and 56 scores in 15 games.
He’s also been recognized as the Greater Catholic League South and Southwest District Division I Offensive Player of the Year. Leading Moeller to the state championship for the first time since 2013, Ponatoski’s performance in the state semifinal against Centerville, where he achieved 431 yards and matched a school record with six touchdowns, further cemented his status as one of Ohio’s top quarterbacks. With 7,419 yards and 85 touchdowns in the past two years, Ponatoski is poised to continue his dominance in his senior year.
