The actor is telling the story on Zoom, sitting about the same distance from the computer that your dad might—a littleclose—summoning his best roughneck to reenact the suspicious reaction to his arrival: “I mean, ’Y’all are making a movie about a roughneck? What is your angle?’”
“After our first meeting with the guys, we went back to the hotel and were debriefing,” says McCarthy. “Matt’s pacing around the room, like, ‘Did you see how they hold their hands? They almost lead with their forearms. And their legs are kind of stiff from decades of hard work.
