Khalipha has not stepped aside from his position, as it has been widely reported.
According to the trade union federation Cosatu and the South African Municipal Workers Union in the Free State, Khalipha took a leave of absence and then appointed a temporary replacement.
Khalipha is facing a charge of common assault and two counts of crimen injuria. He allegedly assaulted his bodyguard, who tried to remove him from an angry crowd, during a community meeting at Kutlwanong, Ondendaalsrus in February. The ANC in the province has revealed through a statement, that Khalipa’s matter was discussed at length. And they will announce the name of the person to act in his position. However, more clarity is needed on this matter.
ANC alliance partner SANCO maintains that it doesn’t intervene in internal matters of the ruling party.
