can be intimidating, but for Italian-American model and actor Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz, there was added pressure. When Lutz attended the premiere for her film yesterday, it was the first time she was seeing the project in its entirety—with a full audience alongside her, no less.

“I was very nervous and excited at the same time,” Lutz tells. “I knew the Palais would’ve been full of artists I love and admire, so I felt the pressure.” Seeing herself up on the big screen, she reminisced on one of her favorite scenes to shoot. “The one-sequence shot at the beginning was such a challenge for me, and I think for the whole cast and crew,” she says, without spoiling it. Considering Cannes is just as much about the glitzy red carpet as it is about the films, Lutz also felt a duty to deliver a strong look. “I wanted something that would represent me and would make me feel comfortable at the same time,” says Lutz. “I wanted the look to be modern, chic, and with a rock touch.” To hit all these fashion points, she chose a silk tulle gown from, which had delicate embroidery work on the top. “I loved the fact that the silk tulle was all painted and embroidered, and the gradation of colors on the bottom of the dress,” says Lutz. “The dress took 178 hours to make—that’s amazing to realize how much work is put into making one incredible dress!” She also rounded out the ensemble with Chanel’s High Jewelry pieces, which “added a final rock ’n’ roll touch to the look,” says Lutz. While the actor certainly enjoyed dressing up for the evening , her favorite part of the whole Cannes experience thus far has been getting back into cinemas and seeing live audience reactions to the various works. For her film premiere, it was especially touching. “The audience was so alive,” says Lutz. “It was so moving, I didn’t expect it.” Post-Cannes, meanwhile, you can expect the star to be getting back to work on a number of new projects. “I’m currently shooting an Italian series for Netflix about the Brigands, based in Italy in the 1800s,” says Lutz. “And I’ll be shooting soon a project I’m really excited about —a feature film calleddirected by Sam Yates, starring Daisy Ridley and Shazad Latif.” We sense many more Cannes carpets in her future.
