Crusaders become first San Diego Section team to win two straight state football crowns; 11th victory in a row after 0-4 start to season
Ten seconds into Friday’s Division 2-AA CIF State Football Championship Bowl Game, Mater Dei Catholic had the game right where it wanted … trailing by six.
It was also the third straight come-from-behind win for the Crusaders, who rallied to beat Mission Hills in the San Diego Section Division I title game and rallied from 21 points down last week to beat Downey in the Southern California Regional 2-AA championship game. After driving to the 12- and 6-yard lines, Mater Dei Catholic had to settle for field goals by Ricky Osuna from 36 and 23 yards, giving the Crusaders a 13-6 at halftime instead of a much larger margin.
