Crusaders stun top-seed in eight innings
An hour later in a game that took more than three hours to play, the No. 7-seeded Crusaders, who won the San Diego Section Division I title, scored the final nine runs to stave off defeat to be crowned the Division II SoCal Regional softball champion.
Lilia Alpuche was the third hit batter of the inning for another run. Amy Jones, one of two seniors for the Crusaders, singled in the tying run by bouncing the ball over the third baseman’s head to tie the game 9-9.Mater Dei managed four hits in the eighth inning, taking its first lead of the day on an infield single and Michelle Cervantes’ double.
