Amy Kennedy won the Democratic primary for New Jersey’s 2nd congressional district, the AP projects. She will face Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who switched to the Republican party, pledging 'undying support' to Trump.
A handful of Democratic candidates hoping to challenge Van Drew engaged in a competitive primary, with political leaders mostly flocking to Kennedy, a mental health advocate and former teacher, and political science professor Brigid Callahan Harrison.
Kennedy — who's married to former Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy, the son of the late Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy — was endorsed by both New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver. Harrison gained the support of New Jersey Sens. Cory Booker and Bob Menendez as well as state Senate President Steve Sweeney.
