In a tie-breaker vote by Mayor Edna DeVries, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly passed an ordinance that repeals a borough code pertaining to the development of mobile home and trailer parks in the borough.

Mayor Edna DeVries pushed the legislation forward after a tied vote among assemblyPALMER, Alaska - In a tiebreaker vote by Mayor Edna DeVries, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly passed an ordinance at Tuesday’s meeting that repeals a borough code pertaining to the development of mobile home and trailer parks in the borough., essentially bans any new developments of mobile homes or trailer parks within the borough.

The ordinance successfully repealed MSB 17.48, a borough code pertaining to mobile home park developments, in its entirety. Strawn said around six parks were already grandfathered in before a dozen more were established through the conditional use permit process in the late 80s and early 90s.Strawn said the recent repeal of the borough code pertaining to mobile home parks makes development regulations fall back into multi-family developments - which has limitations on substandard dwellings.
