Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films are bringing the live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe to theaters on June 5, 2026.
is directing from a screenplay by Chris Butler based on initial drafts written by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee. Knight and Butler previously collaborated on Paranorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, Missing Link, and Wildwood.
Producers on Masters of the Universe include Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.The official synopsis reads: “10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword — the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.
A live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe has been in the works for nearly two decades. Sony and Netflix were the two studios closest to bringing the project to the screen. In July 2023, Netflix scrapped their live-action Masters of the Universe film from Adam and Aaron Nee.Masters of the Universe has existed for over four decades, dating back to the toy line’s initial release in 1982.
