In partnership with Retail Credit Solutions, the retail giant said it is offering customers loans up to R250,000 to buy solar panels at its stores.

JOHANNESBURG - Retail giant Massmart said it has launched a solar energy funding scheme to help South Africans looking to buy solar systems.

The company, in partnership with Retail Credit Solutions , said it was offering customers loans up to R250,000 to buy solar panels at its stores. This comes as many people search for affordable alternatives to reduce their reliance on Eskom, as a result of the energy crisis. The company says anyone who takes up these loans will also be able to claim back 25% of it from government, as announced by the Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana.

"We noticed that many of our customers wanted to invest in bigger backup energy solutions, but didn’t really have access to the funding. So, we decided to come up with a funding solution with RCS that provides loans,” said Massmart’s Varsha Dayaram.
