A three-alarm fire erupted in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood Sunday morning, devastating a construction site and threatening a nearby occupied eight-unit townhouse. The intense blaze caused significant damage to both structures, leading to evacuations and prompting a large-scale firefighting response.
Seattle Fire Department (SFD) crews were battling a three-alarm fire in the Ballard neighborhood Sunday morning. The fire, reported on social media around 6:30 a.m., originated at a building under construction in the 900 block of NW 54th St. The blaze quickly spread to an occupied eight-unit townhouse, engulfing the structure with such intensity that it melted windows.
The primary building under construction tragically collapsed, and the fire subsequently spread to the second and third floors of the townhouse. The townhouse was swiftly evacuated, and firefighters successfully contained the blaze, dousing it with water. Thankfully, only minor injuries were sustained. A woman in her 20s was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but did not require hospitalization. Authorities are urging residents in the vicinity to keep their windows and doors closed to minimize smoke exposure. Firefighters anticipate remaining at the site throughout the day to extinguish any remaining hot spots and diligently monitor for potential flare-ups.
