A major change is on the way for 7-Eleven in Australia, with the business behind the convenience stores revealing 'the time is right' to make the move.

The company behind the nation's"largest private fuel and convenience retailer" is on the hunt for a buyer for the first time in almost five decades.

The Withers and Barlow families founded the company which started with a store in Oakleigh in Melbourne in 1977, after having roots in the grocery business since 1919. "As such the Withers and Barlow families have decided that the time is right to review options for the future ownership of the business with a view to setting it up for future growth and success."
