Public health officials in Massachusetts have reported an eleventh case of West Nile virus this year, prompting warnings about mosquito-borne illnesses. The new case involves a man in his 60s who recently traveled out of state, though he may have been exposed in the Greater Boston area. Meanwhile, eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) risk levels have been raised to high in Concord due to positive mosquito findings.
Public health officials in Massachusetts on Friday reported an eleventh person in the state has been diagnosed with West Nile virus this year.
"Although the person’s recent travel outside of Massachusetts means the exact location of exposure is uncertain, there is a possibility he could have been exposed within the Greater Boston area, which is already known to be at high risk for WNV,"a statement from the Department of Public Health said.
