Nichols College President Glenn Sulmasy resigned Tuesday.
DUDLEY, Massachusetts — The president of a college in Massachusetts has resigned after being accused of sexual misconduct involving several students when he worked at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, according to reports.
Nichols College President Glenn Sulmasy resigned Tuesday after leading the college since 2021,. The resignation comes after an investigation by CNN showed he reportedly sent hundreds of sexually suggestive texts to a former student at the academy. CNN reports that lawyers for the Coast Guard recommended in 2016 that Sulmasy be prosecuted in a military court-martial for conduct unbecoming an officer and willful dereliction of duty. The Coast Guard did not prosecute Sulmasy, even though lawyers warned it could be seen as “sweeping the case under the rug,” CNN reports.
“In light of these reports and facts uncovered to date during the college’s ongoing investigation, and their impact on President Sulmasy’s ability to lead Nichols College, the board strongly believes the institution’s best interest is to pursue new leadership,” the school said in an announcement,The Telegram & Gazette reports Sulmasy also is accused of verbally harassing another student.
