Patrick Crusius, center, plans to plead guilty next month to killing 23 people and injuring 23 others in a racially motivated mass shooting in 2019 at a Walmart in El Paso A North Texas man charged with killing 23 people and injuring 23 others in a racially motivated mass shooting in 2019 at a Walmart in El Paso intends to plead guilty to hate crimes resulting in death, according to court records.
Crusius left behind a manifesto with white nationalist and anti-immigrant themes on the online message board 8chan shortly before the attack. The screed cited a prior mosque shooting in New Zealand and the far-right conspiracy theory known as the “Great Replacement” — the racist idea that liberals are orchestrating an influx of immigrants to weaken the political and economic power of white citizens — as inspiration for the attack at the Walmart, according to FBI investigation reports.
