United’s midfield has been routinely cut apart in their first two matches of the new season, against Wolves and Spurs, and Ten Hag is light on options in the centre of the pitch with Fred having left the club, loanee Marcel Sabitzer not retained and Kobbie Mainoo injured. Mount’s absence will likely see United rejig their midfield with Scott McTominay – who has been linked with a move away – brought in to provide additional support to Casemiro.
