McTavish has his first career multi-goal game with two goals and two assists, and John Klingberg scores at 1:08 of overtime to give the Ducks a 5-4 victory.
January 6, 2023 at 10:25 p.m.ANAHEIM — For those who like plenty of goals, wild swings of momentum and little defense, the unfortunate news is that Friday night was the final regular-season game between the Ducks and their Pacific Division foes, the San Jose Sharks.
The tone was set when the Ducks fell behind 1-0 only 38 seconds in the game and trailed 2-0 just 6:03 into it. They fought back three times, the final time resulting in a 4-4 tie with 6:47 left in regulation on Mason McTavish’s second goal and third point of the game. McTavish had equalized and got the game to overtime with a shot from the middle of the slot, and the Ducks had to wait out a lengthy review after what ended up being the Sharks’ unsuccessful challenge for offside. It was also the first start for Ducks goalie Anthony Stolarz since he suffered a lower-body injury against the Sharks on Dec. 9 after he came into the game in relief of starter John Gibson. Stolarz faced 41 shots and improved his career record to 8-1-0 against the Sharks.
