CTA riders are still required to wear masks or face coverings despite a recent federal court ruling, local officials announced Tuesday.

issued by Gov. J.B. Pritzker in effect through April 30 requires that masks be worn on public transit and in transportation hubs, like O’Hare and Midway airports and CTA train stations.

The judge’s decision prompted the Transportation Safety Agency to stop enforcing the mask mandate on all forms of public transportation, including airplanes, buses, trains, taxis and ride-hailing vehicles. Several airlines immediately dropped their mandates, making masks optional for passengers.A spokesperson for Metra said no changes to its mask mandate for passengers had been announced.

"I believe that where we will end up is that we are going to recommend that people who feel comfortable and feel like they need to wear a mask continue to wear a mask," Lightfoot said, adding that she would continue to wear a mask on airplanes for the"foreseeable future."
