Led by Jamal Mashburn Jr.'s 15 points, the New Mexico Lobos defeated the Texas Southern Tigers 92-55 in a season opener.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Jamal Mashburn Jr. scored 15 points as New Mexico beat Texas Southern 92-55 in a season opener on Monday.

Mashburn had five assists for the Lobos. Donovan Dent scored 12 points while shooting 4 for 8, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc, and added six assists. JT Toppin had 11 points and was 4 of 6 shooting and 3 of 3 from the free throw line. Jonathan Cisse led the Tigers in scoring, finishing with 11 points and four assists. Texas Southern also got 10 points from Jaylen Wysinger. Shaqir O’Neal also had eight points.New Mexico’s next game is Thursday against Saint Mary’s on the road. Texas Southern visits Arizona State on Saturday.
