WASHINGTON—Sen. Ben Cardin ,whose political career stretches back to the 1960s, said he wouldn’t run for re-election next year, a decision expected to send other state Democrats scrambling for the seat.
“I have run my last election and will not be on the ballot in 2024, but there is still much work to be done,” Mr. Cardin said in a statement. “I plan to make the most of every moment left.”
