In the state's initial request for relief funding following the Francis Scott Key bridge collapse, Maryland officials Thursday asked for $60 million from the Fe
The cargo ship called "Dali" crashed into the Key Bridge in Baltimore, collapsing the bridge into the Patapsco River. Two days after the Baltimore, Maryland bridge fell into the Patapsco River when it was struck by a container ship, Governor Wes Moore and Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Widefeld requested a "quick release" of funding for the initial mobilization, operations, and debris recovery from local and federal responders.
The 948-foot-long ship that collided with the bridge, the DALI, remains at the port damaged. At the same time, crews from the U.S. Coast Guard, Maryland State Police, and other agencies have Biden and leaders from federal agencies promised in the hours after the collapse that they would work to provide as much support as needed into cleanup and rebuild efforts, though some critics claim that some of the funding should come from the ship's management company, Synergy Marine Pte, Limited.
DALI was known to have had several issues in the past, most recently in 2016 at the Port of Antwerp, and no known issues were found with the bridge itself at the time of the crash. Despite some conspiracy theories online, there have been no indications that the collision was intentional, instead merely accidental as the boat reported power issues in its Mayday call.
