Maryland’s governor joined South Dakota and South Carolina to disallow the app from government devices.In addition to TikTok, Hogan’s directive included the removal of other Chinese- and Russian-influenced products and platforms.

“There may be no greater threat to our personal safety and our national security than the cyber vulnerabilities that support our daily lives,” Hogan said in a statement. “To further protect our systems, we are issuing this emergency directive against foreign actors and organizations that seek to weaken and divide us.”

On Tuesday, Sen. Ron Johnson and other lawmakers representing Wisconsin sent a letter to Gov. Tony Evers calling for TikTok’s removal from state devices.Arkansas state Sen. Gary Stubblefield joined the cause Monday and filed a bill to ban the app from state-owned devices. The directives follow FBI Director Christopher Wray’s warning that TikTok is a threat to national security.
