The Olympic legend and retired gymnast was in the ICU for two weeks last fall.
Gymnast Mary Lou Retton visits at SiriusXM Studio on August 9, 2016 in New York City. "I still have a hard time breathing and getting breath to speak," Retton said in a new interview withadding that she remains on supplemental oxygen for now. "I'm a speaker I haven't been able to really work because I don't know if I can get up on stage and do an hourlong talk like I've normally done for 40 years. That's frustrating. It's been hard, I have to say.
"They're calling it a rare form of pneumonia. But it didn't test thoroughly for anything bacterial, fungal, I mean, nothing," Retton continued, adding that she and her medical team consider her a "medical mystery.", pneumonia is a type of lung infection that can be caused by a variety of factors, such as bacteria, fungi, a parasite or a virus.
